I’ve listed multiple groups that are affected negatively by technology, but why do I personally care? I care because technology distracts me a ridiculous amount. Over the course of creating this website, I was probably on Facebook for five hours. That’s five hours earlier I could have finished. I could have gone to sleep well before two in the morning, and I would have been more productive the next day. This is just one extreme example of how all the technology around me makes me less productive. So I have a stake in this. I feel like my life would be much easier if Facebook, Youtube, and Dreamweaver never existed. I spend more time trying to make technology work or just procrastinating with it, than actually doing my work, which is a major problem in my academic life. But also, if there ever comes a day where I can’t use my phone or access my laptop, I don’t think I will know what to do in that situation, and the presence of technology in my life is to blame. |
